Online Learning
It’s no secret that 2020 has been completely different from what anyone expected. For many of us our work has moved to an online only capacity, we aren’t seeing our colleagues in the office and we certainly aren’t heading out for lunch with some close friends from work. Our story is the complete opposite to the narrative we thought it was going to be. Most of us are working from home, we wake up we eat breakfast (shower) and then move to our computer set-up. Some of us choose to adopt a ‘business on top pyjama on bottom’ look as we dial into morning meetings and begin our day. We can spend anywhere between 8-12 hours in our working days sitting on our computers and now so are our children.
The online world is where the youth of today live, young children who haven’t even finished primary school have access to different online platforms. Without the traditional school day to break up technology use, the amount of time students are spending online is rapidly increasing. On top of that, online schooling is different. It’s stressful. Some students are struggling to access the resources required to succeed, some students are being asked to complete almost double their usual workload and other students are struggling with the concept of being stuck inside.
So, what can we do? We can encourage some healthy routines for students:
Set up a daily schedule with breaks included
Utilise apps such as Smiling Mind (younger audience) and Headspace (older audience) for guided meditations and mindfulness exercises
Exercise daily; youtube videos of yoga and other workouts or go for a walk/ run
Eat well and drink water - our bodies (especially our brains) need nutrients to stay healthy
At Unleash Tutoring Co, we pledge to be of assistance to students during this time. Stressed? Overwhelmed? We are here to help. We will help students not only with the content of their learning, but also by setting strong examples of what mindful practise looks like. We will give you insight into how we best disconnect and take breaks.
Think of the brain like the body of an athlete - if an athlete trains every single day, without a rest day, their body will give in. If students study for hours on end without a break, what could happen?
